The History of Belisama Scathach.

Post by Imperator-Dei on Mon Dec 28, 2009 11:57 am

Daerua Scathach, Dragon Prince of Caledor, third son of Therrid was a very powerful noble in Caledor; one of the few remaining princes still able to ride upon the mighty dragons, a moon blue dragon by the name of Eillafka. Rarely has he been able to ride the dragon as they slumber so. Upon returning home from a campaign to repulse a Druchii assault in the Shadowlands of the north he returned home to his wife, Arilaf.
Nine months later the Scathach family was both blessed and cursed, for while they were blessed with a child, a daughter for the mighty house, but cursed by loosing another daughter, the mistress of the family.

Born to the noble family of Scathach, Belisama was the first, and as it would turn out only child of Daerua Scathach, Dragon Prince of Caledor, and Arilaf, Princess of Caledor. Her mother had died in childbirth, Common within the worlds of man but a rare thing for the civilized Asur, especially in the lands of Caledor.

Distraught over the loss of his beloved wife, Daerua lost himself in his work. Spending hours if not days alone in his chambers working over tactical information or up in the mountains with Eillafka, washing her scales, occasionally flying the mighty being when she awoke.
Being raised by her father alone was a hard task for the dragon prince, having spent most of his life fighting the enemies of Ulthuan or in the mountains of his homeland to watch those that made the land famous... dragons.

Without any maternal figure, Belisama trained in the ways of war as did many in the militant land in the Elven kingdoms. Her skills were impressive for someone so young and for a girl. Her father noticed this but believed she would grow out of it before long.

Belisama also spent her young life learning the life in the courts of Caledor as well as travelling the length and breadth of the Elven Kingdom, she particularly enjoy spending her time in Ellyrion and Eataine. She enjoyed watching the horses of Ellyrion and their reavers; their skills at riding and firing, at being one with their beasts even in the midst of war. And then there was her fascination with the other races and how they were so barbaric in comparison of to her own people, their strange customs and food, and their ungodly smell! She often wondered how the men folk could go so long without bathing, too simply wallow in one’s own filth.

Her father starting to notice her tendencies realized that she wasn’t taken in by the politics of the courts tried to control his daughter. He ordered her to stay in the castle walls so she would constantly leave her father’s castle with soldiers to patrol the lands or to just train in the ways of war. He locked her within her extensive chambers and all she would do is train with sword and bow.

By the young age of 50 she had become one of the greatest warriors in the castle. Her father fed up with his daughters insolence sent her away to live with his sister, Slyiat from Saphery. Slyiat was a harsh mistress to live with. Her aunt was a great influence on Belisama, unfortunately not in the positive way her father had hoped. Adhering rigidly to the structure of Asur society Slyiat would force Belisama to stay and serve the court for all hours .While her aunt tried to teach her the skills of diplomacy and politics it only made Belisama resent the role she was being pushed towards. Whenever she could Belisama would sneak away, sometimes for hours and even for days to watch the famed Swordmasters of Hoeth train.

By the time she was 78 her father allowed her to return to Caledor to stay. Realizing that Belisama may never stay in the courts, he had a set of armour created for her. Forged from the finest metals in Ulthuan and imbued with the finest gems. The armour was a magnificent work of art as well as protection, even for the already exquisite work of the elves.

Her father allowed her to defend her homeland whenever it was attacked, which luckily for her father hadn’t happened in well over two centuries.

On Belisama’s 92nd birthday the Druchii launched a great assault of her homeland, a force of several hundred of the retched, fallen Asur attacked the mighty land of Caledor. Daerua immediately made a call to arms. Roused and ready for war Belisama went with the armies of Caledor and Ulthuan to combat their ancient nemesis, the Druchii. Upon one of the few plains in the mountainous land the two armies clashed.
Row upon row of noble Asur spearmen clashed into hordes of Druchii warriors and corsairs in a blur of a bloody melee. The righteous silver helms met the Druchii cold ones in headlong charges, elf and beast alike slain, torn open by the jaws of mounts, trampled underfoot, or pierced and skewered by lance and spear. At the head of each army the lords of the forces met in a blood-spattered and gory melee, finely crafted swords clashed against greatly artificed armour.

The Asur Dragon lord fought the Druchii Dread lord each atop their mighty mounts of horse and cold one. Slashing with swords against shields or armour, jaws snapping and hooves stamping; each trying to get the upper hand on their opponent in the confusing blur of sword and shield of bolt and arrow.

Belisama rove through the ranks of enemy troops and cavalry, trying with her unit of dragon princes to outflank the Druchii artillery of bolt throwers. Rushing forwards lancing Druchii as they appeared or merely ramming and running them over pulverising their innards with the might hooves of her trusted mount Ancali. Upon reaching the artillery Belisama’s component tore through artillerymen and destroyed their weapons, several swinging and launches deadly bolts into the Druchii lines skewering many of them to the ground or others of their kind to bleed out like the animals they were.

Turing to look for her father in the swirl of combat, she found him just in time to see him run through the abdomen with the wicked blade of the Druchii lord. Having seen the horror of her father die, she charged through the lines alone towards the dread lord now circling her father’s dieing body to take the mighty trophy of a dragon prince’s head back to his dark land.

Preparing to slash the fallen prince’s head and removing it from his shoulders Belisama broke through the circle of melee around the two lords and surged forward, lance in hand and rammed the mighty piece of metal straight through the dread lord’s sternum, shattering his ribcage and impaling him to the ground.

Disheartened at the sudden turn of events from winning to losing their lord the Druchii quickly turned and ran back towards the coast and their awaiting ships. The forces of Caledor running them down where possible the fleeing forces.

Her father’s body was taken back to their castle where his body was disposed of in the ways of the Asur as were the bodies of those slain defending their homeland. The bodies of the Druchii were left to rot and be fed upon by the carrion birds.

Without a lord or male heir Belisama’s uncle took control of his brother’s realm until the time that Belisama found a husband and settled down. This was not to be, for within a year a mighty twin tailed comet has come flying from the western heavens and is intercepted by another comet from the eastern heavens. This must surely have been a sign from the gods but the Asur could hardly send any force to hunt its remains.

Drasil, Belisama’s uncle suggested that to help her with her grief and to help the greater kingdom of the Asur, that she be sent to find the comets and find anything recoverable and return them to Ulthuan.

Accepting sending her, she made all haste to prepare and make way to the ports of Lothern in neighbouring Eataine. She boarded the Hawk ship Fire of Caledor for the journey to the dilapidated empires of the old world.

Congratulations, I-D. You've won yourself some scale mail barding. ^-^ Enjoy.

On a side note: See? You CAN take the time to plan something that'll turn out the way you want.
